What is Onyx?

Onyx is a type of microcrystalline quartz. Based on their makeup, microcrystalline quartz can be classified as either fibrous or granular. They have a lot of similarities at the macro level, making distinctions between them challenging.

Similar to agate, onyx consists of layers of chalcedony that run on parallel planes. Sardonyx is a kind of onyx that has sard in between layers of white and black.

Meaning & Energy

The energies of onyx are those of strength, protection, focus, and willpower. You may rely on this stone to help propel you forward in life. Grounding occurs when one's base, solar, and brow chakras (the body's energy centers) are all activated. Onyx will not only provide you with a boost of motivation to finally take action on your aspirations, but it will also shield you from harm as you strike out on your own. If you keep an Onyx with you or wear it every day, you'll create a protective barrier around your energy field that will keep any harmful or destructive forces at bay. Even now, it remains one of the most potent protection stones known to man, despite having been utilized for that purpose for thousands of years.
